What is Engineering? Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. Engineers figure out how things work and find practical uses for scientific discoveries. Scientists and inventors often get the credit for innovations that advance the human condition, but it is engineers who are instrumental in making those innovations available to the world. In his book, "Upsetting the Universe" (Sloan Foundation, 1981), physicist Freeman Dyson expressed, "A decent researcher is an individual with unique thoughts. A decent architect is an individual who makes a plan that works with as barely any unique thoughts as could really be expected. There are no divas in designing." The historical backdrop of designing is a vital part of the historical backdrop of human progress.
